Who it's for

For the people others come to first.

Learners explore how to start supportive conversations, listen and respond effectively, understand their role and boundaries, and know when and how to signpost or escalate concerns.

The course also looks at common mental health conditions, workplace responsibilities and the practical support organisations can put in place.

Anyone can take this level. It suits the people colleagues are likely to turn to first, whatever their job title.

Applied to a real workplace scenario

Learners work through a case study of a manager supporting an employee whose anxiety and workload are affecting their work, deciding what actions to take, how to approach the conversation and how to stay within the boundaries of the role. It is the difference between knowing the theory and being able to use it on a Tuesday afternoon.

Support system

Support that doesn't stop when the course does.

Every learner gets access to a bank of supporting resources throughout their three-year certificate period, building on what's available at Level 4 with additional content that unlocks as you progress.

This is what separates a qualification that sits in a drawer from one that actually gets used.

✓The full REACH OUT framework for ongoing reference
✓The Something Feels Off checklist for spotting early signs
✓The What Do I Say conversation guide
✓A Support Contacts card covering key services
✓Short video modules reinforcing key content
✓Real-world conversation transcripts drawn from clinical experience
✓Refreshed content throughout the certificate period

Questions

Level 2 mental health first aid: your questions answered.

Is this a Level 2 mental health first aid qualification?

Yes. Level 2 Managing Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace is credit rated and recognised by Qualifications Scotland, with levels that are equivalent to the RQF in England. Because delegates are assessed, their certificate shows they achieved the standard, not just that they attended.

How are delegates assessed?

Through role play scenarios, where they practise a real supportive conversation; case studies, where they work through a scenario and explain their thinking; and a multiple choice and short answer assessment.

Who should take Level 2?

Anyone can take it. It suits the people colleagues are likely to turn to first, whatever their job title. The right level depends on the role someone will take on, not how senior they are.

How long is the course?

One full day, six hours of training.

Can it be done online?

Yes. It can be delivered fully online or fully in person. We do not mix the two, with some people in the room and others on screen, because neither group gets the experience they need. See online mental health first aid training.

How much does it cost?

The price covers the whole group, not each person: £1,795 for up to 12 people or £2,195 for up to 16. All prices include VAT. See our guide to mental health first aid training costs for what should be included.

How long does the certificate last?

Three years. We strongly recommend a short refresher every year so the skills stay fresh, and we can run refresher training for your first aiders.

Is there a minimum age?

Delegates need to be 14 or over.

Do you run this training for construction and engineering teams?

Yes. We have a pathway built for construction, engineering and energy, delivered on site and shaped around shifts, safety critical work and life on site. See mental health first aid for construction.
