Suicide Prevention Training for Workplaces in Scotland
Would your people know what to do if a colleague said they didn't want to be here anymore?
Practical training that gives people the confidence to notice, to ask directly about suicide, and to connect someone with help. For everyone at work, online or in person.
Most people never expect to have this conversation.
But one day, a colleague might tell you they're struggling. Someone in your team might show signs that something isn't right. Or you might find yourself wondering whether someone is thinking about suicide.
Would you know what to say?
It's not always easy to ask. People worry about getting it wrong, making things worse, or not knowing what to do if someone says yes.
Our suicide prevention training helps you recognise when someone might be at risk, gives you the confidence to ask directly, and helps you understand what to do next.

Your people will ask the question. And know what to do next.
They will recognise when someone might be thinking about suicide, ask about it directly, and stay with the conversation. They will know how to get help, including in an emergency, and how to look after themselves afterwards.
And your organisation will have people across every team who are ready for the conversation nobody wants to have, but someone eventually will.
Six things your people will be able to do afterwards
Recognise the warning signs that someone may be thinking about suicide, including the quieter ones.
Ask directly about suicide, using clear and caring words, without fear of making things worse.
Stay with the conversation and listen, without rushing to fix or argue with how someone feels.
Know what to do in an emergency, including when the conversation happens on the phone.
Connect someone with the right support in Scotland, from their GP to crisis services.
Look after themselves afterwards, and know where to turn for their own support.
Half day or full day.
Both courses can be delivered at your workplace anywhere in Scotland, at our Glasgow training centre, or live online, for groups of up to 20 people.
Both are open to everyone. No previous mental health training is needed. The full day gives people more time to practise and covers what to do when things are at their most serious.
The essentials. For anyone who wants the confidence to notice, ask and get someone to help.
Understanding suicide and the myths around it, recognising warning signs, how to ask directly and stay with the conversation, connecting someone to support, and looking after yourself afterwards.
Ask about the half day →Everything in the half day, with more time to practise and prepare for the hardest moments.
Adds practice of the conversation in a supported way, what to do in an emergency including a crisis call, supporting someone after a crisis and back into work, and how an organisation can respond after a suicide.
Ask about the full day →Suicide Awareness at Work
Not ready for a half day? Our 90 minute bitesize session is a good starting point, online or onsite.

Led by practising therapists
Our team works with people through anxiety, trauma and crisis every week, in the therapy room and in workplaces.
Handled with care
Some people in the room will have their own experience of suicide. Everyone knows what the session covers beforehand, nobody is put on the spot, and support is there during and after.
Practical and plain spoken
No jargon and no scripts. Clear steps people remember and can use the next time someone needs them, in person or online.
What people say afterwards
What organisations say about working with us
What has stood out most is the way Andy operates as a genuine extension of our team rather than simply as an external supplier. He brings strong subject-matter expertise, is highly responsive, and has consistently helped us identify and deliver the most appropriate provision.
The results to date have been excellent, and we would be very happy to recommend Andy and Piece of Mind to other organisations looking for a trusted, consultative partner in this space.

Mental health first aid across the UK and Europe
A multinational in a safety critical industry. Training in Edinburgh and Norway gave people the confidence to notice a colleague and say, "Are you okay?"

Suicide prevention training: your questions answered.
Do people need any previous mental health training?+
No. The course is open to everyone at work, whatever their role. No previous training is needed.
Is suicide prevention training accredited?+
Like most suicide prevention courses, it is not SCQF credit rated. It is built around practical skills, and it works well alongside our credit rated mental health first aid courses.
Does talking about suicide make it more likely?+
No. Asking someone directly about suicide does not put the idea in their head. For many people it is a relief to be asked, and it can be the start of getting help.
What is the difference between the half day and the full day?+
The half day covers the essentials: warning signs, how to ask, staying with the conversation and connecting someone to support. The full day adds more time to practise, what to do in an emergency including a crisis call, supporting someone after a crisis and back into work, and how an organisation can respond after a suicide.
How many people can attend?+
Up to 20 people per course.
Where do you deliver the training?+
At your workplace anywhere in Scotland, at our training centre at Orchard Park in Glasgow, or live online.
Is it safe for people who have their own experience of suicide?+
We take great care with this. Everyone knows what the session covers beforehand, nobody is put on the spot, people can step out at any time, and we share where to find support during and after the session.
Can we combine it with other training?+
Yes. Many organisations add it to mental health first aid training, run it for managers and HR teams, or pair it with a review of their wellbeing support.
How much does it cost?+
It depends on the length of course and where it is delivered. Get in touch and we will give you a clear quote. Payment plans are available.
