Who it's for

The starting point for everyone in your organisation.

Mental health awareness shouldn't sit with a handful of trained First Aiders. This half day course gives everyone the same grounding, the same language and the same understanding of what to do when something isn't right.

It is designed for employees at any level, with no prior knowledge of mental health needed. Practical, interactive and rooted in real workplace situations rather than clinical theory.

Many organisations use it as the foundation layer, then add First Aid for Mental Health qualifications for the people who need to go further.

Questions

Level 1 mental health awareness training: your questions answered.

What is Level 1 Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace?

A half day course, four hours in one session, that gives people a practical understanding of mental health at work. It covers common mental health conditions, introduces our REACH OUT framework and builds the confidence to start a supportive conversation.

Is it an accredited qualification?

Yes. It is credit rated and recognised by Qualifications Scotland, with levels that are equivalent to the RQF in England. Because delegates are assessed, their certificate shows they achieved the standard, not just that they attended.

How are delegates assessed?

Through role play scenarios, where they practise a real supportive conversation; case studies, where they work through a scenario and explain their thinking; and a multiple choice and short answer assessment.

Who is it for?

Anyone. No previous knowledge of mental health is needed. It is the starting point for everyone in your organisation, and people can move on to Level 2 or Level 3 later.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 builds awareness and the confidence to start a conversation. Level 2 is a full day that builds on it with the First Aid for Mental Health action plan, risk assessment and crisis response skills.

Can it be done online?

Yes. It can be delivered fully online or fully in person. We do not mix the two, with some people in the room and others on screen, because neither group gets the experience they need. See online mental health first aid training.

How long does the certificate last?

Three years. We strongly recommend a short refresher every year so the skills stay fresh, and we can run refresher training for your team.

How much does it cost?

Individuals can book a place on a scheduled course for £95. For your own team, the price covers the whole group: £995 for up to 12 people or £1,250 for up to 16. All prices include VAT. See our guide to mental health first aid training costs for what should be included.

Do you run this training for construction and engineering teams?

Yes. We have a pathway built for construction, engineering and energy, delivered on site and shaped around shifts, safety critical work and life on site. See mental health first aid for construction.

Where this sits in the bigger picture.

Awareness for everyone, deeper qualifications for the people who need them, and the systems behind both.
