Mental Health First Aid Refresher
Keep your first aiders confident, current and qualified.
Skills that are not used fade. A refresher gives your mental health first aiders the chance to practise the conversations again, update what they know and be assessed again, at the level they trained at.
Practise it again. Be assessed again.
Your First Aid for Mental Health certificate lasts three years. We strongly recommend a refresher every year, because the moment someone needs these skills is rarely the week after the course.
Most of the time a refresher is a resit of the course at the level your people trained at. They go back through the role play scenarios and case studies, update what they know, and are assessed again through the multiple choice and short answer assessment.
Each level has its own refresher, because each level asks something different of the people who hold it.
Refresh the awareness, the REACH OUT framework and the confidence to start a conversation.
Refresh the action plan, risk assessment and crisis response skills, with practice conversations.
Refresh the work on complex situations, suicide prevention and the structures that make first aid work.
We will look at what you already hold.
If your first aiders trained with another provider and their certificate is running out, we can still help. Send us details of the qualification or certificate they hold, and we will recommend the level that suits them best.
That might be a refresher at the level they already have, or it might be a step into one of our credit rated courses, recognised by Qualifications Scotland with levels that are equivalent to the RQF in England.
Refreshers run fully online or fully in person, at your workplace, at our Glasgow training centre or live online. We do not mix the two in one group.
Mental health first aid refresher: your questions answered.
How often should mental health first aiders refresh their training?+
Your certificate lasts three years, and we strongly recommend a refresher every year so the skills stay fresh.
What does a refresher involve?+
Usually a resit of the course at the level your people trained at, including the role play scenarios, case studies and the multiple choice and short answer assessment.
Is the refresher the same for every level?+
No. Each level has its own refresher, matched to what that level covers.
How long does a refresher take?+
It depends on the course. Because it is usually a resit, it follows the length of the level being refreshed.
Can it be done online?+
Yes. Refreshers can be delivered fully online or fully in person, never a mix of the two in one group.
We trained with another provider. Can you help?+
Yes. We will look at the qualification or certificate your people hold and recommend the level that suits them best.
How much does a refresher cost?+
Prices are on request, because they depend on the level, your numbers and the format. Book a free call and we will give you a price.
Keep your first aiders ready for the day it matters.
Tell us which level your people hold and when their certificates run out, and we will talk through dates, format and price. No hard sell, just a straightforward conversation about what you need.
