Mental Health First Aid Training in Scotland
Set your mental health first aiders up for the moments that actually matter
Training that goes beyond the certificate: the confidence, the language and the framework to show up when a colleague, an employee or a friend needs them.
Training a team near you? We deliver at your workplace across Scotland and England.
The difference isn't the certificate. It's what your first aiders can actually do.
Most people booking mental health first aid training for the first time have no way of knowing what good looks like until their first aiders are tested by a real situation.
Most courses are designed around a template. Ours was designed to close the gap between knowing something is wrong and knowing what to do about it.

Your people will know what to say. And when to say it.
They'll have a real framework for difficult conversations not just a vague sense that they should check in more. Your organisation will have people who are genuinely equipped to respond, not qualified on paper.
And you'll have taken a meaningful step toward a workplace where mental health is handled with the same seriousness as physical safety.
Six things your first aiders will be able to do afterwards
Recognise the early signs of common mental health conditions as they present in a real workplace.
Use the REACH OUT framework to open and guide a supportive conversation with confidence.
Assess risk and take structured action when a situation is serious.
Signpost someone to professional help and support them while they access it.
Respond in a crisis, including situations involving suicide risk.
Help build the kind of workplace where people feel safe to speak up.
Find the right level for your team.
Every level can be delivered at your workplace anywhere in the UK, at our dedicated Glasgow training centre, or live online, along with access to our learner support app, packed with practical tools and resources to help them use what they've learned back in the workplace.
Anyone can take any level. The right one depends on the role someone will take on, not how senior they are, and people can start at Level 1 and move up.
The starting point. For anyone who wants to notice when someone is struggling and feel confident starting the conversation.
Covers common mental health conditions, introduces the REACH OUT framework and gives people the confidence to start a supportive conversation.

Led by people who do the work
Andy Griffiths and the team spend their weeks working with clients through anxiety, trauma and crisis, not talking about it as trainers.
A recognised qualification
Credit rated by Qualifications Scotland, with levels equivalent to the RQF in England, and delivered for teams across the UK and Ireland. Every level is assessed and certificates last three years.
Practical, human, jargon-free
Relevant, engaging learning people can use the morning after, in person or online, anywhere in the UK.
A qualification, not a certificate of attendance.
Every level is credit rated and recognised by Qualifications Scotland, with levels that are equivalent to the RQF in England. Delegates are assessed through role play scenarios, case studies where they work through a scenario and explain their thinking, and a multiple choice and short answer assessment, so their certificate shows they achieved the standard, not just that they attended. The certificate lasts three years, and they keep the resource bank for all of that time.

What most employers don't know
You have a legal duty of care for your people's mental health, not just their physical safety. Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, employers must protect employee health, safety and welfare, and this duty covers mental as well as physical health.
Separately, under the Equality Act 2010, a mental health condition can meet the legal definition of disability if it has a substantial, long term effect on someone's ability to do their job, which brings a duty to make reasonable adjustments. If that duty isn't met and a case reaches tribunal, compensation for discrimination is uncapped.

What organisations say about working with us
What has stood out most is the way Andy operates as a genuine extension of our team rather than simply as an external supplier. He brings strong subject-matter expertise, is highly responsive, and has consistently helped us identify and deliver the most appropriate provision.
The results to date have been excellent, and we would be very happy to recommend Andy and Piece of Mind to other organisations looking for a trusted, consultative partner in this space.

Mental health first aid training: your questions answered.
Is this a qualification or a certificate of attendance?+
A qualification. Every level is credit rated and recognised by Qualifications Scotland, with levels that are equivalent to the RQF in England. Because delegates are assessed, their certificate shows they achieved the standard, not just that they attended.
How are delegates assessed?+
Through role play scenarios, where they practise a real supportive conversation; case studies, where they work through a scenario and explain their thinking; and a multiple choice and short answer assessment.
Which level does my team need?+
Anyone can take any level. The right one depends on the role a person will take on and how your organisation wants to use them, not on how senior they are. Some people start at Level 1 and move up, and each level goes deeper, so knowledge, responsibility and confidence grow with it. If you are not sure, book a free call and we will work it out with you. Our workplace mental health training guide covers how organisations decide.
How long does the certificate last?+
Three years. We strongly recommend a short refresher every year so the skills stay fresh, and we can run refresher training for your first aiders.
Is mental health first aid a legal requirement?+
Not by law. The Health and Safety Executive does expect employers to consider mental health alongside physical health when they assess their first aid needs. Training people to recognise and respond to someone who is struggling is one way of meeting that. Our article on mental health first aid in the workplace explains what that means in practice.
How many mental health first aiders do we need?+
There is no legal number. The Workplace Mental Health First Aid Standards published by MHFA England in October 2026 suggest at least one for every 50 employees, with one for every 25 as the goal. Beyond that, it depends on how your teams are spread out and the work they do. Our guide on how many mental health first aiders a workplace needs goes through it step by step.
What are the new Workplace Mental Health First Aid Standards?+
In October 2026 MHFA England published voluntary Workplace Mental Health First Aid Standards for employers. They cover areas such as leadership and policy, how many first aiders to have, refresher training every three years, debriefs and support for first aiders, and how support is reviewed. Many of them are about what an organisation puts in place around its first aiders. We help with that through debrief and supervision sessions for first aiders and our workplace mental health systems review.
Can the course be done online?+
Yes. All three levels can be delivered fully online or fully in person. We do not mix the two, with some people in the room and others on screen, because neither group gets the experience they need. See online mental health first aid training.
How much does mental health first aid training cost?+
Individuals can book a place on a scheduled Level 1 course from £95. For in house training the price covers the whole group, not each person: Level 1 is £995 for up to 12 and £1,250 for up to 16; Level 2 is £1,795 for up to 12 and £2,195 for up to 16; Level 3 is £2,495 for up to 12 and £2,995 for up to 16. All prices include VAT. See our guide to mental health first aid training costs for what should be included.
Where do you deliver the training?+
At our training centre at Orchard Park in Glasgow, at your own premises anywhere in Scotland, or live online. We also train teams across England, Wales and Ireland.
Who delivers the training?+
Practising therapists. Andy Griffiths and the team work with clients through anxiety, trauma and crisis every week, and that experience is what the training is built on.
What support is there after the course?+
Every delegate gets access to our learner app and online resources for the full three years their certificate lasts.
Is there a minimum age?+
Levels 2 and 3 are open to anyone aged 14 and over.
Do you run this training for construction and engineering teams?
Yes. We have a pathway built for construction, engineering and energy, delivered on site and shaped around shifts, safety critical work and life on site. See mental health first aid for construction.
Do you train veterinary practices?
Yes. Vet practices carry a particular kind of pressure, and we can train the whole team, from vets and nurses to reception and practice managers, working around your rota. Read our article on mental health first aid for vets.
