Are you tired of excuses holding you back?

Are you living a life of excuses

Are you living a life of excuses?

Excuses are like opinions everyone has them.

We all come up with excuses for not doing stuff it’s part of what we do. But why is it that we make so many excuses for not changing the things in our lives that don’t work?

The funny thing is we believe these excuses. These little stories we tell ourselves keep us in our own little bubble even though at times it makes us miserable.

Are you tired of excuses holding you back

The thing is being comfortable does not allow for growth.

How many excuses do you make when it comes to making changes?

We make these excuses for not dealing with stuff and justify doing it with more excuses, it’s crazy.

Excuses let us off the hook. It’s much easier to accept things the way they are instead of changing them.

If you want to change things, you need to stop making excuses.

Working with clients I have pretty much heard every excuse under the sun from:

You don’t get it everything happens to me
My upbringing was different
You don’t understand my Ex is a so and so
My depression is different
My anxiety makes me do X Y and Z

Listen I’ve been there, I was an expert at excuses. I made excuses every day.

I made excuses why I didn’t exercise and why I wouldn’t deal with the way I was feeling. The excuses just kept piling up until I got comfortable with a life I hated.

I got really good at not being happy.

Make an excuse, get unhappy, make a load more excuses and on and on it would go.

The anxiety experienced when horrendous..my excuses had a grip on me and I was stuck.

Until one day I decided I had enough. I got tired of making excuses for not dealing with my stuff. It was then I decided to take personal responsibility for my life.

So do you feel like you are a spectator of your own life?

If that’s a yes you can change it. You can create a new story, you can change whenever you want, once you stop making excuses.

In the UK the average person lives to the age of 81, if you are lucky you may live to your 90 or 60 or 55 nobody knows..nothing is guaranteed.

Who knows how long we have left so stop allowing the excuses from holding you back. It’s never too late to do something.

Don’t do that BS thing of thinking I don’t have enough time or the time isn’t right just now.

If you are honest with yourself and looking at your life you will see you do have some time.

How much time do you spend on Social Media or watching TV or buying tons of stuff you don’t really need from Amazon? Be honest with yourself.

Keep a record of what you do over the next couple of weeks it will surprise you how much time you waste. This exercise will make you sit up and realise that not having enough time is just another excuse.

So just think how much time are you wasting on believing your excuses?

How much time are you wasting on meaningless stuff?

How many times have you said I will start tomorrow if I have the time. There will never be the right time, there is no such thing as the ideal moment in time to start something new.

If you are anything like I was you’ll say
I’ll start tomorrow
I’ll contact so and so tomorrow
I’ll go and see my GP tomorrow

The problem is tomorrow is never a day away, is it?

Tomorrow ends up being the next day or the day after that. You put things on hold always getting ready to do but never take any action.

You are allowing excuses to control your life.

Don’t wait for motivation to turn up that’s just another excuse.

Motivation is not something you can rely on to make changes. Motivation is fleeting, sometimes you have loads and other times your like naa I’m not feeling it today.

Motivation should never be the reason you do something. We do things because we want it more than what we have now.

Not having motivation is just another excuse.

So you have to decide to live rather than existing.

If you don’t take action to bring about the change you are too comfortable with your current situation.

Choosing to do nothing is a choice.

You are smart enough, you do have enough time, you are not too old. If you want to change be honest with yourself and take personal responsibility for the change.

You can read thousands of self-help books, read positive memes, you can watch my videos. But if you don’t take action, then nothing will change.

So why put off changing things until tomorrow or the next day or whenever the time is right. Don’t allow these excuses to control you.

Is it time for you to stop being a passenger in your life and start to drive it?

So what are you waiting for…go create your story!

Training & Development

Tagline: He’s seen mental health crisis at its most acute. And he knows what actually helps.

David’s background is probably unlike anyone else you’ll meet in a mental health training room.

Twenty-three years on the frontline of emergency services first as a police officer, now as an HCPC-registered practising paramedic. He hasn’t studied stress, trauma and burnout from a distance. He’s carried them, in uniform, responding to people at the absolute worst moments of their lives. He understands the culture that makes asking for help feel like the hardest thing in the world because he’s lived inside that culture.

That frontline experience sits alongside his clinical practice as a qualified hypnotherapist and accredited EFT practitioner. David works with real people navigating real challenges every single week. What he brings to Piece of Mind Training isn’t theoretical. It’s current, grounded and built entirely from the inside out.

As part of the team, David delivers training, practises as a therapist and plays a key role in the development and direction of the organisation making sure that everything Piece of Mind produces is professionally rigorous and genuinely human.

David is responsible for development and ensures that Piece of Mind Training programmes are grounded in real-world application. Not what the textbook says should happen. What actually works when it matters.

Iona

Iona Russell

Growth & Partnerships

Tagline: She’s written the book. Literally.

Iona has spent more than twenty years working at the intersection of human potential and real-world impact — across psychology, coaching, education, broadcasting, the charitable sector and social policy, in both the UK and the USA.

She is a Master Positive Psychology Coach and twice bestselling author who has supported hundreds of people through coaching qualifications and worked alongside some of the most respected names in positive psychology and personal development. As a keynote speaker and leadership advisor, she helps organisations rethink what success and human flourishing actually look like.

But what drives Iona’s commitment to mental health work goes deeper than her professional background. She lost her brother to suicide. That experience — and everything it taught her about the gap between what people are going through and the support available to them — shapes everything she brings to Piece of Mind Training.

At Piece of Mind, Iona leads our partnerships, builds community impact and drives our growth across Scotland and beyond. She brings commercial insight, deep human understanding and a personal reason for being here that no CV can fully capture.

Ann

Ann Stewart

Head of Training

Tagline: The person who makes sure the learning delivers every time.

Ann has spent her career helping people make sense of the things that are weighing on them and finding a way forward when everything feels tough.

Her background is genuinely rare. A qualified teacher, certified hypnotherapist, coach and First Aid for Mental Health practitioner, Ann brings together an understanding of how people learn with a deep, practical knowledge of how people struggle. She still works directly with adults and young people every week supporting those experiencing anxiety, low confidence, emotional distress and the kind of quiet difficulties that don’t always have a name but make everyday life feel impossibly hard.

As a trainer, Ann knows that the best mental health training doesn’t just inform people, it changes how they see themselves and the people around them. She brings that belief into every session she delivers, whether she’s working with a room full of HR professionals or a team who’ve never talked about mental health at work before.

As a therapist, trainer, teacher and mum of three, Ann understands that most people are dealing with far more than anyone around them realises. That understanding is the foundation of everything she does.

At Piece of Mind Training, Ann leads on training quality and consistency, making sure that what we promise is what every learner experiences, every time.
