How Much Does Hypnotherapy Training Cost in the UK?

The short answer: in the UK, a short introductory hypnosis course usually costs a few hundred pounds. A full practitioner diploma, the level you need to work with clients and join the main professional registers, usually costs somewhere between £3,000 and £4,500, and some courses with extended support cost more than £7,000. Our Foundation Diploma is £1,300 and our full Diploma is £3,000, and both can be paid in instalments.

I would rather you knew the price before you pick up the phone. So this article sets out what training costs, what you should get for the money, and the costs that often come later.

What does hypnotherapy training cost in the UK?

Prices vary a lot, mostly because very different things are sold under the same name.

Type of courseTypical costWhat it usually gets you
Introductory or taster courseA few hundred poundsA feel for hypnosis. Not enough to work with clients.
Self paced online certificateFrom a few hundred pounds up to around £2,500Theory and recorded demonstrations, with little or no live practice.
Practitioner diplomaAround £3,000 to £4,500Full training to work with clients, with assessment and recognition from professional bodies.
Extended diploma packagesSome cost £6,000 or moreA diploma plus longer access, extra modules or business support.

These are typical prices we found on UK training providers’ websites in October 2026. They change, so always check with the provider.

What moves the price up or down?

Live teaching or recorded videos. A course with a trainer in the room, or live online, costs more to run than recorded content. It is also where you get corrected, which is how you actually learn. You would not learn to drive a car by reading a book.

How much real practice you get. Hypnosis itself is fairly easy to learn. The bigger skill is knowing what to do with it for the person in front of you. That takes supervised practice, first in class, then with friends and family, then in real conditions.

Assessment. A practitioner diploma should assess you properly. On our Diploma that means three case studies, an open book exam and a practical assessment. Courses without real assessment are cheaper to run.

Recognition. Our full Diploma is accredited by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC), and it is what you need to register with the GHSC and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). Check what a course lets you register with before you pay. We explain more in Is this hypnotherapy course accredited?

Length. Practitioner diplomas usually run over nine or ten months. That time is where the practice and the confidence come from.

Support after you qualify. Some courses end on the last day. Others give you a community, CPD, supervision and mentoring for years afterwards. That support is worth more than it looks when you are starting out.

What costs do people forget about?

The course fee is not the whole picture. Before you choose, it is worth budgeting for:

  • Insurance. You need it once you work with the public. Accrediting bodies recommend insurers.
  • Professional membership and registration fees. Most bodies charge a yearly fee.
  • Ongoing CPD and supervision. Good practitioners keep learning and keep getting support.
  • Setting up your practice. A room, a simple website and some marketing.
  • Travel and accommodation if you train away from home. A live online option can remove this cost.

Is cheap training a false economy?

Sometimes. Around a quarter of the students who come to me trained somewhere else first and did not feel equipped to work with clients. They end up paying twice.

That does not mean the most expensive course is the best one. It means the price only makes sense alongside what you get: live teaching, real practice, proper assessment, recognition and support after you finish. Our guide to choosing the right hypnotherapy course has a full checklist.

What do our courses cost?

Foundation Diploma: £1,300, which can be spread over four months.

  • Four weekends over four months.
  • These are the first four weekends of the full Diploma, so you learn alongside Diploma students.
  • Recognised by the GHSC and the ACCPH. After completing it you can register with the ACCPH.
  • Can be attended in the classroom in Glasgow or live online.

Full Diploma: £3,000, which can be spread over nine months.

  • Nine months of training, with practice in class, with friends and family, and in real conditions.
  • Three case studies, an open book exam and a practical assessment.
  • Accredited by the GHSC, and lets you register with the GHSC and the CNHC.
  • Can be attended in the classroom or live online over Zoom. This is live teaching, not distance learning, and you get exactly the same qualification.

Starting with the Foundation Diploma? You do not lose what you have paid. If you go on to the full Diploma, you only pay the difference of £1,700.

Both include our aftercare: a community of students and therapists, CPD, supervision and mentoring. Therapists who trained with us more than seven years ago still come back.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to become a hypnotherapist in the UK?
A practitioner level diploma usually costs between £3,000 and £4,500. On top of that, budget for insurance, membership fees, CPD and setting up your practice.

Can I pay for hypnotherapy training in instalments?
Many providers offer payment plans. Our Foundation Diploma can be spread over four months and our full Diploma over nine months.

Can I start with the Foundation Diploma and upgrade later?
Yes. The Foundation Diploma is the first four weekends of the full Diploma. If you carry on, you pay the difference of £1,700.

Is online hypnotherapy training cheaper?
Self paced online courses are usually cheaper, but they rarely include live practice and feedback. Live online training, where you join the class in real time, costs about the same as the classroom because the teaching is the same.

Why are some hypnotherapy courses so cheap?
Usually because they are short, recorded or not assessed. That can be fine for curiosity, but it is not enough to work safely and confidently with clients.

Do I need the full Diploma to practise?
To register with the GHSC and the CNHC you need a full practitioner diploma. The Foundation Diploma is a recognised first step and lets you register with the ACCPH.
