Ian Young

My journey into the realm of mental health started back in the 1980s, a chapter unbeknownst to me at the time.

Growing up in a bustling household of seven, my parents, both mental health nurses, worked tirelessly day and night, navigating the delicate balance of providing and keeping our heads above water.

Despite their relentless efforts, making ends meet was a constant challenge. In the mid-1980s, as part of the care in the community initiative, our home transformed into a haven—a residential care home offering solace and long-term care to diverse residents with a spectrum of conditions.

Our family was different from the norm. This led me to ponder whether our uniqueness was a blessing or a curse. Yet, in hindsight, I realise it gifted me with a profound sense of empathy and understanding, qualities rare among my peers at that time.

These attributes laid the foundation for the person I would become, influencing my core values and ethical compass.

Illness, Anxiety & Fear

As I progressed into adulthood and pursued a career in the construction industry, I completed an 8-year multi-trade apprenticeship and eventually ran a flourishing building business. On the surface, it seemed like success, but within, I grappled with the aftermath of a childhood that forced premature maturity.

A chronic people-pleaser, every triumph felt like a charade, and every material gain compelled me to share. Despite the apparent charm of this demeanour, it proved unsustainable, leading to years of anxiety, stress, and sleepless nights.

It was during this turbulent period that I embarked on a quest for self-discovery, seeking answers to alleviate the perpetual unease. I delved into self-help books, sought guidance from elder friends, and even consulted a medium.

While these endeavours provided some insight, they fell short of effecting meaningful change in my ingrained behaviours, emotions, and beliefs. Two sessions of hypnotherapy offered a glimmer of relief, unveiling a world of potential and I became intrigued.

In October 2016, my world flipped upside down in the cruellest of ways. My wife experienced a life-changing nervous breakdown, thrusting me into the role of caregiver whilst those closest to us struggled to comprehend her plight. This challenging period, lasting four years, became a crucible for both of us. As I learned to navigate her mental health struggles, I discovered insights into my own.

Finding My Own Answers

Finally, a turning point came in 2021 when success in my property development business granted me new-found choices.

Opting to align my actions with my passion for helping others, I started training with Piece of Mind as a hypnotherapist. I immersed myself in the transformative journey of understanding and addressing mental health in profound ways.

Today, armed with a deep understanding of mental health, I am a trusted confidant for those seeking solace and understanding in times of adversity. My decision to train as a hypnotherapist has proven to be a pivotal one, bringing positive and life-altering results for my clients. This journey is not just my profession; it is an unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact on the world by helping others heal and grow.

I now use my Hypnotherapy, NLP and Coaching skills to help others. I have worked with hundreds of people helping them to move quickly beyond issues life may have handed them.

I now want to do the same for you.
